Ghost Dog: The Way of The Samurai…has nothing to do with the content of this post except a passing connection. I just take the opportunity to mention this cult classic as often as I can, because I can, and because its incredible. It’s the film that introduced me to Forest Whitaker’s gloriously twitchy, herky-jerky acting style - and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Anyways when I got assigned to review Repo Men I assumed it was going to suck (it did) but I figured I would enjoy it if it featured Whitaker kicking ass (it did). Repo Men is one of those movies with a goldmine of a premise but for some strange reason, chooses to disregard it. It does have some really neat blood-curdling batshit crazy fuck-em-up violence so yeah there’s always that.
In other news, I also reviewed Knight & Day. All I can say about that movie is that I missed Portugal’s 7-0 whopping of North Korea for that screening and no, it wasn’t worth it. Okay now for the shocker, (no not literally, you dirty whore) I actually found Twilight: Eclipse to be decent.
When I mentioned this on Twitter, people seemed to confuse “decent” with “OMFG you like Twilight OMG you so ghey.” Yes because calling something above average is a ringing endorsement. I do have admit though that this particular installment wasn’t as insipid as the previous two, largely due to the direction of David Slade (he of Hard Candy fame). The acting is still bad (but better) and the writing is still sloppy (but again, better) so I got to be honest and call it as I see it, this shit ain’t entirely horrible by any means. My biggest complaint was the total lack of Dakota Fanning (only 2 scenes!) and her Justin Bieber lookalike vampire accomplice from the Volturi. Twilight definitely needs more Bieber-vamp to become more epic.
